Sharpen the Saw

How is a person like a saw?  A worn-down saw can’t do its job well (or sometimes at all) but a sharp saw can quickly and effectively make a cut.  People are the same.  If we take time to renew ourselves, we’ll return to our activities and responsibilities refreshed and ready to do our best.

Balance your renewal in the four areas of your life: Physical, Social/Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual.

Here are some suggestions for renewal:

Physical

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Try new recipes from a healthy cookbook.
  • Get a full night’s sleep.
  • Join a gym.

Social/Emotional

  • Call each member of your family during the month (this may be your BPW “family” also!)
  • Give blood.
  • Accept compliments.
  • Concentrate on really listening to others.

Mental

  • Keep a journal.
  • Solve puzzles (Sudoku anyone?!).
  • Collect quotations.
  • Study a subject of interest (Michigan BPW, women’s history?!).
  • Listen to uplifting music.
  • Read a book.

Spiritual

  • Take a walk in a beautiful place.
  • Attend a symphony.
  • Meditate.
  • Read religious or other spiritual books.

For each of the four areas above, choose one activity that you could start right away that would enhance your greatest asset-you! Schedule it into your planner. You’ll be surprised at how the new renewed you functions in all aspects of your life in 2006!

Best Personal Wishes on your journey to sharpen your saw!
