BPW/MI Weekly Minute July 28th, 2008

Greetings !

What an exciting Nat’l Conference in Atlanta. There were many workshops to attend with interesting speakers such as Rep. Carol Maloney and Lily Ledbetter. Lily spoke about her wage discrimination lawsuit against Goodyear. The Presidential forum was informative and let us know where the candidates stood on the issues that BPW supports. Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin gave us insight on how and why she decided to run for Mayor. The opening speaker was inspiring, funny and an inspiration to all. The Global Women’s Summit forum showed us that you can attain your goals and dreams.

There was, of course, business to take care of. The Saturday business session was full of information, by-law changes and new strategies for BPW/USA to remain the strong advocate for women. The Region 4 area reps will have more information to share with us shortly.

The Thursday night Legends Awards honored the ID and YC participants. We were very proud to have our YC, Sydney Hawkins there to represent Michigan.

Diane Polangin was installed as BPW/USA President during a Saturday Afternoon Tea along with her officers, Susan Parsons Reed, Vice-President, Sandy Haase, Secretary and Tina Garner, Treasurer. “Our” Barb Henton was a strong and confident President as she presided over the conference.

I came home from the conference excited and re-energized about BPW. I met new people and saw old friends.  The Nat’l Conference truly represents what BPW is all about.

Cheri Poynter, MFBPW President
