Does your local need an avenue for
retaining or attracting new members?
The Virginia Allan Young Careerist
Program is a marvelous way to attract new members
under the age of 35 and to retain members by mentoring and
developing their skills. What a fantastic way to engage a
young career woman in public speaking opportunities,
networking prospects, leadership and organization
development, and recognition of their achievements while
promoting BPW and our legislative platform!
Perhaps you know someone in your
church, neighborhood, your child’s friend, teacher or
mother, the postal worker that delivers your mail, the list
is endless….that fits this Young Careerist (YC) profile.
It is important that you plan your
local budget to include providing the participant with BPW
membership (if they are not already a member), sending your
YC to State Convention in May and also to National
Convention (in Nevada this year!). Did you know that
Michigan BPW has approximately $800 budgeted for the State
YC to attend the national competition. Although this will
not cover the total cost, it is a great help!
Is your local too small to take on a YC
solo? Think about partnering with another local (or two!).
This will enable you to share expenses and host a YC
competition that has more audience members to evaluate and
enjoy the YC’s speech.
Let’s make sure we are utilizing this
great opportunity to develop the speaking and presentation
skills of our own members and/or recruit new members.
