BPW/MI Monday Minute August 8th, 2005

Happy Hot Summer to all BPW Members!  I am looking forward to the end of the summer for two (2) reasons:  (1) I’m in the Outdoor Amusement Business (carnival) and I’ve had enough 90-plu degree heat; and (2) my local BPW meetings resume after a summer break!

Summer planning sessions are in full swing for most locals and I hope every local organization is planning to host a Virginia Allen Young Careerist (VAYC) program.  For first time chair persons: all the information and guidelines are available on-line at www.bpwusa.org under the Virginia Allen Young Careerist link.  You may also contact me, CJ Skerbeck, at cbskerbeck@hotmail.com for information.

Although we spend the summer on-the-road I manage to check my email weekly at the local libraries of each town.  I should be home in September to spend my winter.

We are hoping all VAYC candidates can come to the state conference to compete.  If not, I encourage all local organizations to submit the names of their candidates so we can recognize these young women at the state conference in Sault Ste. Marie in May.

This is just one of our signature programs dedicated to helping young business and career women to STAND UP and become Powerful Women!

CJ Skerbeck, VAYC Chair

Additional notes to Monday Minute:

ü      DISTRICT DIRECTORS:  Be sure to notify Penny Modlin of the date, time, and location of your fall District Meeting as soon as possible.  If you want a member of the board of directors to attend your meeting, please indicate that, as well.

ü      We are working on a system to archive Monday Minutes so you can refer back to them if you miss a week.

ü      Each local president was sent a few copies of the Michigan Business Woman with an encouragement to hand them out to prospective members.  Which Local Organization will win the $100 cash award in Big Rapids for the most new members between July 1 and October 15?

ü      The deadline for submitting articles or information for the September issue of the Michigan Business Woman is August 30.

ü      Early registration for the Fall State Board Meeting is September 15.  Use the form from your Michigan Business Woman or visit the events section of this website to register.

ü      Don’t forget to turn in a photo of a landmark in your city or town to president-elect, Penny Modlin by September 15.

ü      Looking for a great place to visit and write-off as an educational trip?  Why not plan to attend the Western Regional Leadership Conference in Boise, Idaho.  This weekend event, hosted by Idaho BPW begins on Friday, September 16 with a wine and cheese reception with Idaho’s Governor Kempthorne.

Saturday  and Sunday’s educational element will provide  IDP Leadership Modules and a tour of Boise and the Statehouse – complete with the NIKE statue in the Rotunda!  For more information contact: Gail Miller at millers_outpost@worldnet.att.net

ü       If you missed getting your2005-2007 update to the IDP CD at the national conference, here is your chance to order it: Below is the link to the new ID CD order form.
