BPW/MI Weekly Minute August 24^th, 2008

It is an exciting time to be a politically active woman.  Regardless of your party affiliation, I hope you had the chance to watch Lilly Ledbetter and Hillary Clinton speak during the Democratic Convention this week.  The focus on equal rights for women and pay equity is encouraging for progress during the next Congress.  The ERA has been included in the draft platform after being omitted four years ago.  We will have to watch to see that it stays there. 

There is a new BPW/USA opportunity for those of you who are captivated by legislative issues.  We have started a group discussion on Google.  It is very user friendly so if you have never belonged to a group before, I don’t think you will have any problem navigating.  It is specifically intended for State Legislative Chairs but every BPW member is welcome to participate.  Go to http://groups.google.com/group/bpwusa_leg and ask to join.  Please identify yourself as a Michigan BPW member.  That will send an automatic email to me and I can authorize your participation.  Once you are a member, please update your profile so that people know who you are and where you are from.  Then feel free to post comments on legislation, suggestions on successful programs to promote BPW and questions on anything having to do with legislative and political issues.
