BPW/MI Monday Minute November 20th, 2006
‘TIS THE SEASON TO FOR RECEIVING, RIGHT? Well, usually it is
about “giving” but let’s start by talking about “receiving” and what
you can receive from the BPW Michigan Foundation!
Scholarships, yes you can get a scholarship! The Georgia Emery Fund
is for the exclusive use of BPW Members. These funds are held by the
MI BPW Foundation. The BPW MI Executive Committee approves the
applications and instructs the Foundation to send the check. A $500
scholarship can be granted up to four times to an individual BPW
member. If you are taking classes now, or thinking about going back
to school, check this out. Get an application on line, fill it out,
and submit it to BPW Michigan President, Penny Modlin.
The Foundation's goal is to provide women and girls with the
training, education and skills they need to be productive and
competitive in today's marketplace. This is accomplished by
providing scholarships and grants for GED, college, advanced
studies, leadership development, and Choices programs. Special
funds are available to survivors of domestic violence; to those who
have attended least two years of University of Life (Kids Kollege of
the Future is Mine) programs; and to those who have ever been a BPW
Young Careerist at local, state or national.
Of course our funds are limited. In fact, for the past several
years, we have given out more dollars than we have received. We are
writing grants now to other foundations to grow our funds for the
future. The Foundation accepts contributions from individuals,
corporations or estates. While it is preferred that contributions
be unrestricted to allow maximum flexibility, contributors may
designate funds to existing programs or to establish additional
funds.
YES, ‘TIS THE SEASON FOR GIVING. The Michigan BPW Foundation offers
you an opportunity to make all your gifts “give twice.” Make a
donation in the name of your parents, children, grandkids, in fact,
make a donation in the name of everyone on your list.
We will gladly send a gift card in your name in time for Christmas,
along with an acknowledgement to you for the IRS. The Michigan BPW
Foundation is a 501c3 organization, so your donations are tax
deductible as a charitable gift.
Forms for your donations are on the website. Our website is
www.michiganbpwfoundation.org. We accept credit card, check or money
order and we can make arrangements for you to donate quarterly if
you like. The website also has grant and scholarship applications
available for your use.
The Michigan BPW Foundation was incorporated in 1992 as a 501(c)(3)
non-profit public foundation. Although the foundation is a separate
entity from the Michigan Business and Professional Women's Clubs,
Inc., the BPW Executive Committee appoints two (2) BPW members to
serve on the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The Foundation
Board of Directors elects the remaining directors. The Foundation
is always looking for individuals who are willing to serve on
various committees, write grants and help on events. If you are
interested, please notify one of the Directors.
