BPW/MI Monday Minute November 27th, 2006
Hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving!
At our Fall Board meeting we voted to oppose House Bills 5879-5883
(these bills would force a woman to go through a screening process
to determine if she had been coerced into an abortion and then
making her wait another 24 hrs before the procedure would be
performed). These bills were sent to the Committee on Health Policy
for review on August 9, 2006. On November 15, 2006, the fiscal
analysis of the bills were presented and indicate that bills 5879 &
5880 would have moderate to no impact financially on the Department
of Community Health and bills 5882 & 5883 could cost our Correction
Facilities approximately 31,000 a year for each person convicted of
coercion. We need to educate people so they understand this is about
a woman having the right to make her own decision and not having
that right legislated by the government. Each one of us must to
contact our Governor, Representatives and Senators so our voices are
heard and these bills do not pass. Let’s “Take Action, Make It
Happen!”
